Since 1994 De Digitale Stad (DDS) or The Digital City was the first free accessible place on the internet in the Netherlands. After 7 years it became a paid service. Some DDS users then started the association 'Open Domein' with the goal to preserve a free public place on the (Dutch). E-mail and homepages are and will remain free De echte Digitale Stad (DeDS), the real Digital City. Unique in the Netherlands. 

There are 6.000 'inhabitants' made possible by roughly 100 members of the association and our sponsor. 

Both DeDS and Open Domein are for users who master the Dutch language. This is the only page translated into English.

Projects in the city are:

• a catalogue of homepages,
• a chat café, 
• a digital cementary,
• free e-mail (also via Roundcube)
• and Mastodon.
